2011 MTNA national conference highlights.
2011 MTNA national conference highlights. Recitals [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] * Mezzo-Soprano Denyce Graves and collaborative pianist WarrenJones performed Tuesday evening. * The National Association of Teachers of Singing sponsored acabaret featuring Tom Gualtieri and David Sisco on Sunday evening. * The Opening Session featured a recital by the ARC Ensemble fromCanada's Royal Conservatory of Music. Sessions More than 35 sessions and industry showcases, along with postersessions, were offered at the 2011 National Conference. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Pedagogy Saturday MTNA's Year of Collaborative Music culminated in a day-longcelebration, "All Together Now," focusing on the pedagogy ofcollaborative and chamber music. Throughout the day, sessions focused onbeginning collaborative musicians, including vocal accompanists, as wellas those performers who are more established. Multiple master classes,given "collaboratively" by pianists and colleagues inwoodwind, brass, strings and voice, highlighted duos working at thehighest level. The final event of the afternoon, "From the Pen tothe Premiere," presented the world premiere performances of threeworks commissioned by MTNA in celebration of the Year of CollaborativeMusic. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Teaching Demonstrations and Master Class [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] * Scott McBride Smith offers direction during the IntermediatePiano Teaching Demonstration. * Robert Weirich presented the Advanced Piano TeachingDemonstration. * Denyce Graves and Warren Jones collaborated during the VoiceMaster Class. Plenary Sessions [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] * The Performers Network, an interdisciplinary, medically basednetwork involving the Yamaha Music & Wellness Institute and theCleveland Clinic was the topic during a plenary session. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] * Bill Moore, performance anxiety coach, provided the keynoteaddress. Exhibit Hall Shopping in the exhibit hall is a must for many conferenceattendees.
