A 4470-point scrabble game. In the February 1981 issue of Word Ways we exhibited a theoreticalsolitaire Scrabble game where all 100 tiles are used to achieve a scoreof 4454 points. With some slight adjustments to the setup and a few newwords it is possible to add 16 more points, giving a new total of 4470.Asterisks (*) indicate the two blank tiles.[ILLUSTRATION OMITTED]The moves areas follows:Score Letters Words Formed 74 DDGINPU pudding (bonus) 69 AEEEILN elaeine, pi, un, de (bonus) 76 CEGMNOR eargomen (bonus) 504 ADHJKOO jackpuddinghood, je, al, ke (bonus) 116 AEGINV * galvanize, vr, ag, no, im, ze, en (bonus) 126 ABEENRT breakenet, vm, age, not (bonus) 5 IR bri 12 S vms, pis 115 AALTTU * ultrapapist, ta, ep, aa, aget (bonus) 6 E brie 18 UW wu, we 23 F brief, uf 2 E ue 115 ADORSUW soulward, ew, awe, ruf (bonus) 6 ER re, rs, eo 10 N uen, nawe 11 O wuo, do 6 AT ar, ado 3 I ati 62 EBLOST zeolitise (bonus) 20 OX lo, ix, ox 18 Y oxy, ty 10 AM sa, em, aro 7 P arnp 13 I ije, ig 6 I ity 1361 EFLQTVY frequentatively, qu, truf (bonus) 1676 BCHORSZ benzoxyeamphors, oz, ic (bonus) 4470 (Total) The game uses words taken from various English dictionaries. Twoof the 15-letter terms, BENZOXYCAMPHORS and JACKPUDDINGHOOD, come fromWeb2. The other, FREQUENTATIVELY, appears in 'Wiktionary', anonline dictionary, defined as 'in a frequentative way'. ALatin Dictionary A Latin Dictionary is a popular English-language lexicographical work of the ancient Latin language, completed in 1879, published by the Oxford University Press, and still widely used by classical scholars and Latinists. (Lewis & Short, 1962) shows'frequentative' as Latin for FREQUENTATIVELY.BRI (bree), EO (you), IG (I), JE (yea), KE (kae), NAWE (nave),TRUF (truff), VR (our, B2, a1300 quot.) and VRN (um) can be found inOED, as can BREAKENET (break-net, 1583 quot.) and CARGOMEN, plural of'cargoman (cargo-man, 1922 quot.).AG, AMP and RS appear in Web3, EP (hip) and IX in EDD, and OZ,drugs slang for amyl nitrate, in CDS. UEN, variant of 'ven',an early form of 'fen' (lien, v. 1., 3e, el 275 quot.) and UF(if) are found in MED, and UE, to hum a tune, in SND SNDstandardized normal deviation. .IJE, a Congo drum, is listed in MI, and ZEOLITISE is a variant of'zeolitise' (see -ise in Web2). ITY, derogatory for'Italian', appears together with 'Itie' in the'Australian Slang Dictionary', Natalya Belinsky, 2002(www.babylon.com). All entries in this online reference are capitalised,so you have to decide whieh ones need not be. Since 'itie' isuncapitalised in Web3 and CDS, it seems reasonable to infer that thereare occasions when 'ity" can be spelt in lower-ease aswell. All other words are taken from either Web2 or OED.ReferencesCDS Cassell Dictionary of Slang, Jonathon Green, 1998EDD English Dialect Dictionary English Dialect Dictionary (EDD) is a dictionary of English language dialects, compiled by Joseph Wright. The English dialect dictionary, being the complete vocabulary of all dialect words still in use, or known to have been in use during the last , Joseph Wright, 1970MED Middle English Dictionary The Middle English Dictionary is a dictionary of Middle English published by the University of Michigan.
