Claudia Suteu: Romania: many talents. Claudia Suteu is a 14-year-old artist, who lives in the historictown of Brasov in central Romania. The 750-year old city impresses withits cultural heritage and natural beauty. Claudia's love for musicbegan when her parents gave her an electric organ at age six. She fellin love with the piano right away and soon won her first competition. Claudia practices between three to five hours on weekdays and evenlonger on the weekends. Shortly after Claudia found her love for music she discovered apassion for painting. The young artist received her first award for drawingin June of 1999 and just two month later she had her firstsolo-exhibition in a library. Claudia also illustrated a book, which shewrote. She won many music competitions, including the Romanian PianoOlympiad, received honours for her achievements in school, took part inICAF's Second Arts Olympiad, won the national competition inRomania, and represented her home country at ICAF's Festival inWashington D.C. in 2003. During her visit to the US capital Claudia notonly enjoyed workshops with the other Arts Olympiad finalists, she alsoplayed a concert at a big hotel and read one of her essays on stage. Inthis essay, titled "World's Heart", Claudia expresses hergrief for the tragedy of September 11, 2001. Shortly after returning to Brasov the artist launched her first CD,called "World Songs." Embracing the idea of unity andunderstanding in the world, Claudia recorded songs in four languages.She speaks English, French, Japanese and her native language Romanian.Claudia puts a lot effort into advancing awareness and friendshipbetween her home country and France and Japan. She took part in a seriesof workshops to learn more about Japanese culture and she joined theAlliance Francaise.
