Camille Faure: Impossible Objects. CAMILLE FAURE: Impossible Objects (2007; $35), by Cork Marcheschi.Umbra Books. This is a book written for a narrow audience of individualsinterested in enamel enamel,a siliceous substance fusible upon metal. It may be so compounded as to be transparent or opaque and with or without color, but it is usually employed to add decorative color. It was used to decorate jewelry in ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Art Deco art deco(ärt dĕkō`; är dākō`, ärt)or art moderne(är môdĕrn`, ärt)vases produced by the French Studio ofCamille Faure over a 70-year period beginning in the 1920s. It is theauthor's contention that vases of this kind can no longer beproduced. Camille Faure was born in 1872. Living in Limoges he was greatlyinfluenced by the techniques of underglazing ceramics for which the cityhad been famous for centuries. Moreover, he was much impressed with theradical changes taking place in the styles of art. The Impressionists were a group of artists that allowed science toaffect their work. In this book, one can see the powerful influencesthat shaped the objects made in the Faure workshops. As is stated by theauthor: "The finest pieces of Faure work rival any of the Art Decomasters and outdo them on the grounds of bold originality originality?n. pl. originalities1.
