The mailplane arrives only every three weeks as you anxiously wait for it justto connect with the rest of the world. You have been flooded in for 12weeks with nothing to do and know where to go just water for kilometresand your imagination. Our students face challenges like these every day.It is hard to envision a future when your living is severe isolation andfinding it hard to connect with the world. At KSA we have set up aprogramme to provide our students with opportunities to experience theworld and connect with others. We are giving students the opportunity tobe active members of our community in Katherine through our ResidentialProgramme. We have developed a highly resourceful programme thatembraces the Darwin Universities Rural College Campus, Katherine to giveour students exposure to the 'world of work'. By accessing the Rural College each year we have given students theopportunity to experience and work on a range of skills including horsehandling, car maintenance and CPR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)DefinitionCardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a procedure to support and maintain breathing and circulation for a person who has stopped breathing (respiratory arrest) and/or whose heart has stopped (cardiac . Students also have the opportunityto gain skills in envisioning and planning self-paced SMART goals, embracing future planning with Career education programmes and PersonalLearning Plans to take steps to take action; to move in a matter.See also: Step in working towards their own futures. Students are given the opportunity to explore what is on offer atthe Rural College through a lecture about the campus as well as expressinterest in further courses and studies they may wish to pursue. We areendeavouring to provide opportunities for students to completecertificate modules at the Rural College by creating Partnerships andeducating on what is available. Students work collaboratively on developing relationships with eachother as well as KSA teachers and Campus lecturers. We embed in thisprogramme our Five R's of Middle Years. Respect--for each other, property and ourselves. Relationships--building positive relationshipswith each other, and our community. Reflection--Setting goals andplanning by reflecting on where we are going, where we have come fromand where we are now. Resilience--having a go, taking risks andchallenging ourselves. Rigour--Providing rigorous school based work toget students working hard towards where they want to go. These R'sunderpin our programme; they tie together our philosophies and help usto provide students with a strong base to learn, grow and create futuresfor themselves.
